Betty Newcomb To Receive The AAA Rosa Parks Award (Posthumously)

Betty Newcomb, who was a VFA officer and activist for many years, will receive this great award, which recognizes an individual who serves as a role model and leader for others through their personal achievements, excellence in a chosen field, commitment to human, civil rights and social issues and contributions to the betterment of society.

The Rosa Parks Award will be conferred at the AAAA 39th National Conference and Annual Meeting, Friday, May 10, 2013, from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm. at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk Hotel, 889 East Market Street, San Antonio, Texas.

Betty's son, Philip writes: All who knew my mother were aware that she dedicated her entire life to advancing equal opportunity for women and minorities in her lifetime. From her early efforts with Alice Paul to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, to her co-founding of the American Association for Affirmative Action, to her leadership with the Veteran Feminist of America , and close friendship and collaboration with Betty Friedan and other leading feminists, throughout her life and in their waning years; her life is an inspiring example that a single individual can, through tireless dedication, teamwork and cooperative involvement with others make a difference, and can make the the world better place as a consequence of their individual actions, leadership, perseverance and steelminded determination.

Philip and other members of Betty's family will be there to receive the award for Betty.
