The 888 Women's History Project Presents:
A Film by Susie Rivo, Edited by Iftach Shavit
Welcome to the first issue of WOMEN'S RIGHTS: THE UNFINISHED STRUGGLE, an occasional newsletter we've launched to keep our friends and supporters in the loop about our documentary-in-progress, LEFT ON PEARL: Women Take Over 888 Memorial Drive, Cambridge.
LEFT ON PEARL is a one-hour documentary about the 1971 takeover and occupation of a Harvard University-owned building by hundreds of Boston area women demanding a Women's Center and low income housing for the neighborhood where the building was located. This watershed moment in the Women's Liberation Movement of the late 60's and early 70's led to the founding of the Cambridge Women's Center, the longest continuously operating women's center in the United States.
Our film is very close to completion, but we still need to raise the final funds needed to bring LEFT ON PEARL to broadcast quality (color correction, sound mix, graphics and title design) and to pay for music, archival footage, still photo licensing, among other costs. Look for our upcoming crowd-funding campaign beginning September 15th.

WHY THE "UNFINISHED STRUGGLE"?
In our film LEFT ON PEARL, the words "Women's Rights: The Unfinished Struggle" grace a handmade banner held aloft by women marchers on their way to 888 Memorial Drive. We are calling our newsletter WOMEN'S RIGHTS: THE UNFINISHED STRUGGLE because, as is clear from events in recent weeks in Texas, just one of the many places where our basic rights are under siege, the struggle for women's liberation remains as relevant and critical as ever.
LEFT ON PEARL documents the Women's Liberation Movement, a subject underrepresented in films about the political upheavals of the late 60's and early 70's. Part of the ongoing struggle for women's rights involves preserving and passing on our activist history to the next generation.
SEEKING PHOTOS, HOME MOVIES & OTHER FOOTAGE FROM THE LATE 60's & EARLY 70's
Do you have photos, home movies or other footage from 1965-1972? We're looking for photos of the Women's Liberation movement from before 1972. These can be from anywhere, but anything from the Boston area (and especially Cambridge) would be great!
