Screening of Jennifer Lee's Movie

Today was day three of my trip to Islamabad, Pakistan. I was invited by the International Islamic University of Islamabad to screen "Feminist Stories from Women's Liberation" for three Universities. I was also invited to a round table discussion given by an American Interfaith organization. ( This group was big and I met many Pakistani and American people of faith. Areas of US/ Pakistani relations were discussed and it was enlightening for me. The drone attacks and their effect on the people of Pakistan was a big priority.)

The screenings were well received and joyful. They learned so much about the American women's liberation movement and were grateful for my trip.

Another big concern brought up by the women at the universities is the western portrayal of Pakistani people in media. They want to bridge this and my trip was a very important step. Their feminist analysis of women's representation in the western media was interesting.

I will keep this brief, but know that feminism is thriving here in Islamabad and the discussions were deep, intelligent and friendly. They honored me at each screening and I am in a warm and loving environment with my new sisters.

More when I return!

Jennifer Lee
